Summer Travels - Packing Tips

With summer in full effect, weekend getaways are officially here and packing wisely for them is a must. Whether you’re preparing for a girls' weekend away or visiting out-of-state family and friends, there are a few key pieces that should always hold a place in your suitcase. Narrowing down my wardrobe to its fash bones is an art I perfected during college when my hubby and I would meet halfway between our colleges every few weeks in our favorite little beach town. No matter what the weekend's plans were, one piece you'd never find my suitcase without is a colorful maxi. These breezy summer dresses are not only super space savers, but can easily transition from day to night by simply adding a bright clutch or fabulous shoe. These fash repeat pieces, as I like to call them, are crazy crucial when it comes to packing light. Once I have a stand out maxi selected, like this one here, I always choose a color palette for the rest of my pieces. Whether it's my go-to neutrals or a trendy pastel palette, when you pack similar shades, it makes mixing and matching a thoughtless process. Forget something? Fear not, because you can easily pair your key pieces to create the perfect go anywhere ensemble even if you did forget you favorite pair of bright colored skinnies.

Casual Essentials:

No matter where your travels may take you, a pair of skinny jeans is always a good idea. Any item that can be dressed up or down by a simple change in footwear is always a standout when you’re trying to slim down your packing list. During summer I always make sure to bring a pair of wedges and a comfortable cardigan. Predicting the weather isn't a skill most of us possess, and as a girl who is notoriously cold everywhere I go, this light layover is insanely important. Try stowing it in your tote for those unexpected degree dips.

Play Dress Up:

Nighttime attire is crucial when it comes to weekend getaways; whether you’re playing dress up for a dinner date or drinks with girlfriends, the perfect pair of heels that you can also pair with your skinny jeans is a must. Remember to pack them in the center of your bag, (heels facing in) so they're protected on both sides. I always suggest bringing at least one dress. Whenever I visit my family a single outing to the mall suddenly becomes lunch with extended family, followed by coffee with cousins, and then dinner with old friends, so a cute dress like this floral one will have you looking stylish no matter what comes your way.

Time To Accessorize:

I bring a ridiculous amount of costume jewelry with me on every trip, so to keep things slightly organized I always have a dedicated zip lock bag for my rings, earrings, and so on. To keep them safe, I add cotton strips to each bag for a nice layer of padding. Avoid cotton balls, they tend to cling. Three pieces I always make sure to include are an oversized bangle that could work with at least two of my outfits, a cocktail ring in gold or silver that can mix with everything, and a light scarf for function, that can also add a dash of fash to my basics.

Now that you’re ready to pack, don’t forget to roll your clothes when filling your suitcase for the maximum amount of room. A girl should always have a little extra space in her suitcase for impromptu shopping sprees.
