Father of the Bride

Over the weekend my fiance and I enjoyed a beautiful day in the always lovely Pasadena, Ca. Not only is it filled with super cute outdoor eateries, gorgeous mountain views and tons of unique boutiques, but it's also home to the insanely charming Father of the Bride house. As a former east coaster one of my favorite things about living in Cali is that I'm always right around the corner from things like Marilyn Monroe's former home, which you may remember seeing here or the set of Clueless which you can see here. If it's fabulous and gorgeous, there's no doubt its been used in one of Hollywood's productions. This one in particular we've driven past a number of times, but for some reason never stopped to photograph it. This time however, since we spent the entire drive to Pasadena brainstorming over which song my dad and I should dance to for our father/daughter dance, it was only fitting we stop for a little impromptu shoot. I never expected the song to be such a difficult decision. I don't want to be a balling mess because lets face it, waterproof mascara is only so waterproof, but I want it to be a sweet and memorable moment at the same time. If you guys have suggestions for non-sappy father daughter songs, I'd love to hear them. Xo

  24. I'm afraid I'm no help with the song recommendations.

I fear that when the time comes to plan my wedding I will be so indecisive I'll have to pay someone to take charge for me and make all of the decisions although I do have hundreds of ideas for my wedding I doubt I'll be able to narrow it down.

Let us know if you finally make a decision.

Songs ideas? I'm not a country music girl (and IDK your musical tastes) but "I loved her first" is sappy. What about "My Girl" by the Temptations? Its a classic! Or "The Way You Look Tonight" by Frank Sinatra?

My dad and I are hams when it comes to that sort of thing, and when I was little, we would always sing the "If I had a million dollars" song by the Barenaked Ladies. So I think that's the song I will pick for our dance. There will be no chance of tears, but it's a song that has fun memories of being daddy's little girl.

I was hoping for Isn't She Lovely (seems so appropriate since my parents apparently sang this to me as a newborn in my crib), but dear old Dad got his wish for something a little more smooth. Anyway, I'm sure you'll pick a great song! Lastly, can you tell me where you got the hat? 152. That's a tough choice about the song selection. I definitely don't know many non sappy ones, but maybe if there was a song you used to listen to all the time with him as a kid or something. :) As for your outfit, you look so adorable and this is such a classic look. Love the pink shorts with the striped top and that ring is PERFECT!!!

  157. You can have my Father of the Bride song, lol. I have a different relationship w/my dad, where we're not really "sappy", so I wanted a song to reflect that... So, since I'm a HUGE Stevie Wonder fan, I chose "Isn't She Lovely..." Take out the Baby crying in the beginning & it's perfect! It's mid-tempo, so you can put a little pep in your step & don't have to "Slow Dance". Being that I have no idea when or if I'm ever getting married,I don't mind giving way my ideas ;0)

  158. My dad and I danced to "Thank Heavens for Little Girls" Not sappy at all, but still really special for us and sweet. Love your blog!

  159. We danced to "Gracie" by Ben Folds. It was cute, sweet and not sappy or too emotional. :)

  163. So fun! I love that movie. My own wedding actually had a similar ending...my dad was so busy driving guests/relatives/etc. back to their hotel rooms that he missed sending me off on our honeymoon. Fortunately, we had a similar phone call to the movie before I hopped on a plane to Europe :)

I've always love Gracie by Ben Folds. (My dad ended up picking a country song, but if he hadn't had an opinion, I would have suggested this!)

Good luck with the rest of your planning! :)

My good friend got married last saturday and her and her dad danced to the Somewhere over the rainbow cover by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (with the ukulele). Super sweet and touching but not over the top.
