Patriotic Print

As a huge fan of all things nautical, I tend to collect red, white, and blue pieces year round, resulting in plenty of Fourth of July appropriate ensembles. Looking for special items that expand beyond the traditional color palette is pretty much a practiced task from May on. The second I spotted these star printed denim shorts, I knew they were demanding a major Fourth of July moment and while I haven't locked down my plans for the summer holiday just yet, these kitchy bottoms will undoubtedly be making a cameo.

The Bright Side

"Blondes can't wear yellow." That was the fashion myth I constantly heard growing up. And for a long time, I avoided the hue like itchy tweed. But there's been a major rotation in my wardrobe color wheel and yellow is slowly but surely preparing for a complete and total take over. You may remember me discussing how I boycotted pink and glitter for the majority of my youth here. Thankfully, that wore off pretty quickly. :)

Summer Sweaters

Ok, so I know what you're thinking... sweaters + summer = this. And while, I can't argue the reaction, smart and light layering is actually a fabulous wardrobe option for your not-so-casual and not-so-exterior summer adventures. I suggest color blocking with bright hues by layering a solid colored lightweight sweater over a sleeveless collared shirt in a complimentary summer shade. This simple layering trick helps turn two basic pieces into one polished and stylish ensemble. Be sure to pick breathable and lightweight pieces that fit close to your body to prevent feeling like a over-layered Olsen twin trekking through the Sahara. ;)

A Change Of Scenery...

"Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why." This has been Justin and I's motto this summer and it couldn't be more true. We've been traveling nonstop, enjoying the little things, and soaking up every ounce of life. Now we're off to Italy to visit Rome, Florence, and Venice until the end of the month for the trip of a lifetime. We've never been before, so naturally, we're bursting with excitement.
