Miss Dior

I've always been intrigued with the emotional power that a certain scent can carry. A specific smell can sometimes trigger a series of memories, instantly taking us back to a place and time. Whether it's a beloved grandmother, a favorite teacher, or an old friend, an overwhelming amount of memories can be associated to a single scent. For the past few years my mom has made it a tradition to give my sister and I our favorite perfume for Christmas. In the weeks leading up to the holiday, my sister and I pretty much become a staple at all the department stores, sampling each scent, searching for a new favorite fragrance. Living across the country from my family is never an easy thing, so this new tradition lends to a nice reminder of my sister and mom each time I reach for my perfume. I've made it a habit to change my fragrance each year. Now whenever I smell Paris Hilton's perfume, I instantly recall my senior year in college or whenever someone's wearing Juicy Couture, I remember the year I moved across the country. It's sort of like my own memory catalog, which keeps things fun and interesting.

Build a selection: I always try to avoid testing more than two fragrances at a time. Overloading your senses is never a good idea when it comes to accurately testing perfumes. Build a selection of samplers that you can refer to later that night, but don't forget to label your blotters.

The final test: After you've decided on a favorite scent, sample it once again, and leave it on your skin for at least 30 minutes allowing the top notes to wear off. This is when you will be able to tell if this fragrance is the perfect match for you.

Make it last: Unless you're planning on hitting the gym or running a marathon, your perfume will generally last between 4-6 hours. To make the most of your new scent be sure to apply your fragrance to your bodies main pulse points, like your inner wrist, behind your ears, and the base of your throat.

My go-to scent for 2012 is Miss Dior and thanks to Fragrancenet.com, I've had no problem replenishing my stock. Their site has a massive selection of fragrances including over 15,000 designer brands of perfumes & colognes.
