Over the weekend my fiance and I enjoyed a beautiful day in the always lovely Pasadena, Ca. Not only is it filled with super cute outdoor eateries, gorgeous mountain views and tons of unique boutiques, but it's also home to the insanely charming Father of the Bride house. As a former east coaster one of my favorite things about living in Cali is that I'm always right around the corner from things like Marilyn Monroe's former home, which you may remember seeing here or the set of Clueless which you can see here. If it's fabulous and gorgeous, there's no doubt its been used in one of Hollywood's productions. This one in particular we've driven past a number of times, but for some reason never stopped to photograph it. This time however, since we spent the entire drive to Pasadena brainstorming over which song my dad and I should dance to for our father/daughter dance, it was only fitting we stop for a little impromptu shoot. I never expected the song to be such a difficult decision. I don't want to be a balling mess because lets face it, waterproof mascara is only so waterproof, but I want it to be a sweet and memorable moment at the same time. If you guys have suggestions for non-sappy father daughter songs, I'd love to hear them. Xo

ReplyDeleteMy thought is to do something really cute for a father daughter dance. My dad and I are hams when it comes to that sort of thing, and when I was little, we would always sing the "If I had a million dollars" song by the Barenaked Ladies. So I think that's the song I will pick for our dance. There will be no chance of tears, but it's a song that has fun memories of being daddy's little girl.

ReplyDeleteMaybe you and your dad could find a song that starts out slow and then cuts loose depending on whether or not he's a dancer. I know some fellows are shy. Be a great start to the party, though!

Anna, I thought I recognized that house! One of the best movies ever, and such a lovely home! My father and I shag danced to You are the Sunshine of my Life by Stevie Wonder. I was hoping for Isn't She Lovely (seems so appropriate since my parents apparently sang this to me as a newborn in my crib), but dear old Dad got his wish for something a little more smooth. Anyway, I'm sure you'll pick a great song! Lastly, can you tell me where you got the hat? I have one I'll be styling in an upcoming post, but it is old, so I need something current to reference... ours are very similar. Thanks so much! Whitley
ReplyDeleteLove your look - such a pretty house too! :)

Cathy, your Poor Little It Girl
http://poorlittleitgirl.com
You can have my Father of the Bride song, lol. I have a different relationship w/my dad, where we're not really "sappy", so I wanted a song to reflect that... So, since I'm a HUGE Stevie Wonder fan, I chose "Isn't She Lovely..." Take out the Baby crying in the beginning & it's perfect! It's mid-tempo, so you can put a little pep in your step & don't have to "Slow Dance". Being that I have no idea when or if I'm ever getting married,I don't mind giving way my ideas ;0)
ReplyDeleteMy dad and I danced to "Thank Heavens for Little Girls" Not sappy at all, but still really special for us and sweet. Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteWe danced to "Gracie" by Ben Folds. It was cute, sweet and not sappy or too emotional. :)
ReplyDeletePictures are really nice, your outfit is pretty and your are very beautiful ! :)
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it's a really difficult decision, I couldn't think of a song immediately.
ReplyDeletelovely outfit!

So fun! I love that movie. My own wedding actually had a similar ending...my dad was so busy driving guests/relatives/etc. back to their hotel rooms that he missed sending me off on our honeymoon. Fortunately, we had a similar phone call to the movie before I hopped on a plane to Europe :)
ReplyDeleteI've always love Gracie by Ben Folds. (My dad ended up picking a country song, but if he hadn't had an opinion, I would have suggested this!)
Good luck with the rest of your planning! :)
