Fash Talk - Perez Hilton

In 2004 NYU graduate Perez Hilton started a little blog that would soon change his life and the Internet forever. Whether you're a high school student, a successful CEO, or an intern at Vogue, we all find ourselves scrolling through our favorite blogs to pass the time. A guilty pleasure that would never be possible if it wasn't for one dreamer who dreamed so big, he was able to turn blogging into a career and a seriously gush worthy empire. Recently I was able to sit down for an interview with the humble mogul and I was completely taken with his charm and genuine personality.

Anna: Every Friday on Fash Boulevard I choose my personal celebrity Fash Fave and Fash Fail of the week. Who would you consider to be your all time Fash Faves and Fails?
j
Perez: Well, my best dressed of the week is Kat Graham. I just love her fashion sense. She’s been to a few different events this week, I think two or three and all of her looks they’re all so different, fresh and young. And my worst dressed, I don’t know. I try to be more positive these days. You know it's okay to say worst dressed but lets just focus on the positive right now.
j

Anna: I couldn't agree more. She's definitely been having some major moments lately. Let's talk about Coco Perez. I adore the site. Are there any up and coming fashionistas that we should be taking note of?
j
Perez: Oh yes. Well, I know Chloe Moretz. And we’re talking up and coming. I mean she’s real young. But I think she’s got a great sense of style for someone her age.
j

Anna: Who do you feel has made a complete 180 in your eyes? Someone you went from trashing on your blog to now praising?

Perez: Lindsey Lohan! I mean there has been a lot of positive Linday Lohan news lately. From her hosting Saturday Night Live to her booking the Elizabeth Taylor biopic movie to her getting a positive probation report from the judge. So hopefully she will be able to keep that up. Because I know Lindsey Lohan, I’ve known her for a very long time. She’s not a malicious person. She’s not a nasty evil person. She’s just somebody that has a lot of flaws that have been made public. But she deserves to be happy like we all do and I wish her a lot of happiness and I think she’s heading in the right direction. And I encourage her to keep down that path. You know, it’s not going to be easy. She can’t get lazy with her health, and with her focusing on her work on her self. But she can totally do it.
j
Anna: So true. I feel like everybody in the industry is really pulling for her. She definitely has the support. If she's ever going to break out of this the time is now.
j
Perez: Absolutely.
j

Anna: Okay it’s time to play a little game called the Fash Fame Game! I’m going to name two people and you tell me which of the two is your favorite! First up, Kim or Khloe Kardashian?
j
Perez: Oh God. I would say Kim, only because I’ve known her longer.
j
Anna: Kristin Cavallari or Lauren Conrad?
j
Perez: Umm, I'd say Lauren Conrad because she seems more authentic. She seems like the real deal. Whereas Kristin, I don’t know what’s real with her or what’s for TV. I don’t have a sense of her real self.
J
Anna: Right. And after the epic Hill’s finale we’ll never know what’s real!
j
Perez: (Laughing) Exactly.
j
Anna: Nicole Richie or Paris Hilton?
j
Perez: Nicole Richie!
j
Anna: Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato?
j
Perez: Tie. That has to be a tie. I really love them both.
j
Anna: Fair enough. Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale?
j
Perez: Ashley Tisdale, because she’s a friend of mine.
j
Anna: Last one. Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson?
j
Perez: Carrie Underwood
j
Anna: Completely agree. So excited for her new CD. Ok, last question. My goal for Fash Boulevard has always been to inspire girls across the country to escape from their small towns and chase their dreams like I did. What advice would you give to all the dreamers out there?
j
Perez: Don’t give up on yourself. Don’t give up on your dreams. And be open to the possibility of your dream changing. And being not what you had originally dreamt. I never would have imagined or drempt that I would be doing what I’m doing today. Because it didn’t exist! So I was open to trying something new and different and I found that I love it and I found that this is something that’s better than anything I could have ever drempt of. So don’t give up but also be open.
j
Anna: That’s so true and very inspirational. Thank you so much for creating a job for all of us bloggers out there and continuing to inspire us by paving the way.
j
Perez: Thank you for being so awesome.

After saying our goodbyes I found myself completely overwhelmed with the experience. To say my heart was beating out of my chest would be a serious understatement. A lot has been said about Perez Hilton, most of it untrue, but I can honestly say... he surprised me.
